Heres a write up I did when I did the head gaskets in my '85 van.

All the torque specs are in there, and pics!

Thanks again will be reading that thoroughly. Any special head gasket to use this might turn into a build before to long if you know what I mean . Another thing I was thinking was a new torque converter . I was looking at the one from rock auto any other experience with them with anyone on here.

Type4 would be the one to talk to about your turbo.

No problem. He has the return line kits, reseal kits for our turbos and a whole lot of other things.

Maybe Superior Diesel in Richmond. I have worked with them over the phone and they seem to be nice people.

history of truck / reason for hg replacent

I have a 94 idi factory turbo . I bought the truck four months ago . Previous owner had replaced injector pump injectors and injector o-rings along with radiator and heater core and glow plugs and controller. After about a month of having I found oil in the radiator and replaced the oil cooler gaskets and flushed out the motor best I could and every week for two weeks after that to get it all out. Then another problem arose I would have excellent power through first and second and then it bogs down horribly in third . Then on top of that I have to do the water trick on the IP to get truck to start but its new or at least five months old .

Now comes the over heating I checked every possible peice of the cooling system thouroughly and can't find nothing wrong. It won't over heat unless I'm on the highway going on a long ride 20 miles plus that's when it just climbs like instantly . I have both gauges mechanical and original the mechanical one works when it wants. I thinks it was half a**ed but the original one works and the tranny temp gauge I have hits 250 in that period also but my tranny cooler will be cool and the fluid isn't burnt and is a nice red . I have a nice sweet coolant diesel mix smell also so was thinkiking exhaust part of the head gasket is leaking .

Sorry for the long post but just trying to get info to yall on truck and reason for tearing it apart

hows the oil and coolant looking? what about the levels? any signs of mixing and or dropping? is the exhaust leaving a constant strong white cloud along with a major sweet smell and or even see vapor? sure the water pump is ok? no weeping and or a large amount of end play?
so with questionable gauges, what leads you to believe the engine is actually overheating? what tell tale obvious symptoms are you seeing when the faulty/questionable gauges are reading high?

Its a nice big cloud that engulfs the truck and lasts for about twenty mins then calms down but still puffs while driving just not as bad . Oil is good . Coolant was down to fins filled back up added stop leak. That seemed to stop the smoke but not over heating . The reason I know its over heating is the light by the wts light popoed on I shut down immediately and pulled over. Got on truck popped hood and couldn't even grab top radiator hose and saw a lil bit ofoil/water in a lil spot on water pump boiling. No weeping or end play on water pump.

Was recommended by a member to check the cooling fan So I used a broom handle to try and stop it once it got good and and hot and it took almost no effort . I'm assuming that's bad.
