Time to replace turbo?
I've had an '06 F350 6.0 for about 4 yrs., and have replaced the head bolts and am dealing with the check engine light that keeps haunting me.
Thanks to postings on this sight, I've repaired the turbo (disassembled and polished vane ring), which is pitted by corrosion, and checked the actuator. I've also tightened all head bolts and replaced broken head bolts; couldn't find any other exhaust leaks.
Before I go buy a new turbo, I'd like to make sure I'm not missing anything.
You had broken Head Bolts??
Iv heard of them stretching but not broken this is A first for that
Why do you suspect bad turbo???
Have you check the sensors that control turbo operation???
I meant manifold bolts. I had the head bolts replaced with ARC shortly after I bought the truck, but about a year later the check engine light illuminated and a 2099 code showed on the OBD. With information gathered from this site and google, I disassembled the turbo, polished the ring and vanes, and cleaned the interior of the turbo; then checked that actuator and repaired heat damaged wiring at the pig tail to the actuator. It worked fine for about a year, now the checked engine light periodically illuminates with the same 2099 error code. I then checked the system for leaks, found staining around the exhaust manifolds, tightened or replaced loose or broken manifold bolts; but the light still haunts me with the same error code.
No noticeable loss of power. Only symptom is the check engine light. The gauge on the dash works and hasn't shown a loss of pressure.
