Hey guys so i was just out and I have not driven my 95 in 5 days, when leaving my drive way i noticed it was kinda hard to get the stick to shift into 1st gear. Well i went on my way to pick up lunch which was about a 2 mile drive then I stayed and talked to my GF while she was at work (where i got lunch lol) for about a half hour. Then on my return tip home after going about a half mile to a mile i was at a red light and it turned green so i pressed the clutch all the way down (floor) and I tried to shift into first and i just would not go in, i released the clutch to see if i could even get it to grind (i know not a good idea really) and it wouldn't even get close enough to grind. So with traffic behind me and my clutch foot to the floor i pushed as hard as i could with both hands and it finally clicked in. While driving the last mile i noticed 2nd was kinda hard 3 wasn't as hard but more than normal and 4th was fine. I pulled into the drive way and with the truck running press down on the clutch while stopped and tried cycling through the gears. 1st was impossible again, 2nd was much harder than while driving, 3rd was hard, 4th was almost normal but had more resistance than normal OD was impossible and so was reverse. I have not driven it again yet but I'm not sure whats up with it, at least if i absolutely need to drive it i have 2,3, and 4 to get around town. This is my first standard so i don't know any warning signs of anything but i didn't think it was the clutch any ideas? My 04 is working again so I'm not in any rush to fix it just wanna get it done before it snows lol.
Check your clutch from the pad on the pedal to the hose going into the bell. Look for slop, misalignment, master leaks, hose bulges and the firewall flexing or cracked where the master locates.
IF your clutch checks out, then it's on to the trans. You are not alone, and not the first:
Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder. If it is low it can give these symptoms.
It could also be that there is air in the clutch hydraulic system. I had one that sat for about three weeks and got so that it would not shift. When I tried to bleed the air, the bleeder valve twisted off, causing me to have to pull the transmission to replace the slave cylinder. Good news was that once the new slave was installed I did not have to bleed any air from the system.
I'll get a condition about like you describe, and all I do is swing the shifter over towards the right, between OD and reverse, and back to 1. Gives the synchros a different position to try to engage in. Works every time.
Just checked the fluid sorry I was busy over the weekend, I'm going to read up on that thread now that was posted. The fluid level was fine dorry gorgot to mention that.
do I just took it for a 20 nile drive and sfter leaving tge drive way it shiftervlike butter. After driving for a little while it progressively got harder and harder to shify into first, only first though the rest of the gears were fine. Also my transmission has roughly 222k on it not sure if there are any known issues for high milage M5ODs. It never got to the point where I csnt shift but it was definitely hsrdervthan usual.
Check the fluid level in the transmission. M5OD's are known for leaking almost all of the oil out. The proper fluid to use is Mercon Automatic transmission fluid.
I will do that after work today. I was doing a project at school late last night but on the same 20vmile ride home I had no issues shifting. 1st was easy and then got harder to shift into but no harder than usual.
Have the shifter forks ever been replaced? Had similar hard shifting issues and my forks were REALLY worn (150,000 Km). Easy to replace from up top. If it continues, it might be worth pulling the shifter and having a look at them.
Hey sorry been really busy at work and this thread never updated on my user cp for some reason. I just got the rruck for $200 off my buddy who got it for $400 to put the chrome trim on his 94. Judging by the shape it's in it was probably used by someone who didnt really care a whole lot about it and just got the routine stuff done like oil etc. I would always assume the worst and say the tranny has never been touched lol.
