Recently i just got my truck back from Ford Service. I had the infamous spark plug blowout. FML.. anyway 3 days after i got it back i was driving it home and it just shut off. None of the gauges fluttered or anything it just died. I have full battery power, but when i turn the key, the engine only turns a fraction of a full turn, and when i let off the key it goes back to where it was. the starter isnt ceased but after i tried starting it, I get a strong wiff of fuel. If it makes a difference its a 2000 ccsb super duty triton v10. please help i have a long road trip coming up and im short on time.
Sounds like the engine isn't turning over? You may want to try to turn the engine over by hand to make sure you can. Get a big ratchet on the lower crank nut. I hope something didn't come apart inside the engine from something the shop did..If it won't turn over it may be locked up from a mechanical issue..
could be cylinders full of fuel from a stuck open injector or grounded out ... Something similar happened to a busy of mine in his Honda and it was a bad injector... took spark plugs out and unplugged coil packs and cracked it to let excess fuel out. hope this helps and that it's a simple fix
Remove the serpentine belt and see if it cranks then. I've had A/C clutches seize and lock the whole engine up so tight the starter couldn't crank the engine over.
Are you sure the battery is okay? If you have another car, try swapping battery real quick. Anything <12 volt and truck can't even attempt turning over

I would agree with this , If the engine quit while driving and it wont crank over then something locked up..
a/c compressors and alt bearing are known to seize. Remove belt and try to crank. If it still does not crank remove your plugs and see what and where the fluid is, either gas or coolant. Good luck.
If you guys think the torque of the V10 can't overcome a seized a/c or alternator, you're crazy. It was running! If either, or both of those ancillaries seized solid, the belt would just get smoked.
I would agree, try to crank it by hand with a breaker bar. You should be able to do it with the serpentine belt on; taking it off makes it easier. Pulling some spark plugs makes it very easy.
A truck with a weak starter or battery combo can easily prevent any engine to turn over. I would also check over all the grounds and make sure they are nice and clean. Are you sure the alternator is charging? Have the battery load tested as well as the alternator.
To the OP, when it shut off while driving, did any warning lights appear before it shut off? Maybe the ABS light? This is often indicative of losing battery power, which will eventually cause the engine to die.
no lights came on before it turned off. it made no irregular noises or knocks. tested the battery and alt. and they are all in good order. i haven't checked the starter but that shouldn't be a cause to the engine just shutting off. but i guess now the real question is where can i find all the grounds? i cant find any charts online and the mechanic at ford is a dick. does anyone have a picture or a thorough description of where the grounds may be? the truck is loaded with rust so i wouldnt be surprised if thats the issue
Troverman, would have thought the same thing but SHOPrject89 is dead on correct. My A/C pulley is seized and Excursion would not complete turn over to start. Removed pulley as suggested truck cleared fuel and started right up. My truck has power and will pass anything but a gas station. But would not smoke belt to turn over with seized A/C pulley. I am assuming computer shuts it down but I may be giving to much credit to ECM.
