Getting a code p1728 with blinking OD light and no converter lockup.
Back story;
Fresh fluid change about 3k miles ago, new TC with 5k on it. Truck has a TS tuner on it.
Towing 8k, slowed for a traffic light. Trans temp 175, no issues. Started moving, 2- shift, 3-shift, 4-shift, OD light, no lockup. In that order. Temp climbed to 225 in under 5 minutes. Front seal in very slightly leaking now. I assume from the ecu cranking the line pressure up for limp mode.
First thing I would try (since it's free and easy) would be to put the PCM back into a stock program and pull the chip. I take it you have a TS 6 Position chip and not a "programmer", correct?
Yeah, no problems with any lights. I think I have it figured out though. Ford dealer diagnostic says pump pressure is low. Sufficient pump pressure is required for lockup. My pump just started leaking and I've been noticing a prolonged lockup action of the converter lately. I'm putting my money on the pump being bad.
Here's exactly what the dealer said. "P1725 - Excessive slippage, transmission pump exhibits low pressure conditions. Torque converter attempts to lock, but does not. Suggest replace torque converter, transmission pump and TCC solenoid".
I just bought a Snap-on MT-2500 ($128 on ebay) with everything I need to troubleshoot it. I'm going to check some of the pins in the solenoid body first, make sure the wiring is good. I personally am leaning towards a bad pump as it just started leaking when this occurred.
The front pump seal can leak when the transmission overheats and the pump can still be okay. I would look carefully at the wiring and the solenoid before you assume the pump is shot.

It came with the following;
- OBD 2 connector with 3 keys included K2A, K9 AND K13
- Ford OBD 1
- GM OBD 1
- FRD-4

I figured that but the trans temp never went over 225. From what I can tell, the leak is coming from the pump body.
Honestly, the trans operates normally... It shifts when it should and it seems faster to react when sifted into reverse since the incident. The only thing it is not doing is locking the torque converter. This non-locking issue was "all-of-the-sudden" too. The dealer is telling me to replace the pump, solenoid body and torque converter but I think they just tell everyone that just to cover their butts. I personally think the pump is to blame as the converter attempts to lock but must be receiving inadequate pump pressure.
I guess I'll be tearing into it soon after some thorough troubleshooting.
I drove the truck yesterday and the OD light stopped blinking. The converter is still not locking up and the light isn't burned out. I think I may have an electrical issue.
