for guys like me who fit out their pick ups for work everyday.
Got sick of tools and stuff falling through the huge gap on my 2012 SD and all the dirt and grime that was getting wedged in there from me hauling around dirt, sand concrete and other nasties.
Keep in mind...I'm coming back to ford after 16 years with a doge ram fitted up the same way and I never remember this being much of a problem. That gap was super small and nothing much fell through at all
I get it, it's my work truck, but I like to keep it clean as possible and also keep things simple.
I picked some used 1/4" x 24" conveyor belt at my buddies concrete plant and decided to give something a try.
First thing was to remove that piece o crap plastic tailgate protection and installed a nice, flat diamond plate Dezee brand. I then sliced a piece of rubber belt to bridge the gap and jammed under the steel plate of my bed. From there, I just riveted another piece of rubber to the top of the Dezee and let it hang. They over ride each other when closed and nothing leaks out.
Easy to shovel stuff out and broom clean and I ain't gotta worry about banging up my tailgate too much. Plus, it keeps debris off the trailer hitch, wiring harness, rear view cam I added and all those other nooks and crannies.
Nice job. I hate when stuff gets in there. I remember my dads old 79 would get loads of stuff in there. Especially winter it would get snow packed in there with bark when we cut wood.
