Hello all, long time no type. Hows everyone doin? I have been buisy. this is the tailgate I built for my truck. Just wanted to show it off to every one. Tell me what you think. and what I should have done different.
I had an old tailgate off my dads truck that I dented right in the center. I cut the v in it (right where the dent was). Made the peices for the inside. welded them in. bondo'd it and had it painted. a couple of toolbox handles and it was ready to go.
That looks sweet! My only concern is the bondo cracking. If it is a problem, I would spot weld the low spots and grind and sand. Or lead fill it.
Other than that I think that is one of the best I have seen.
Thank you all for your coments. I had to use body filler on the out side in the corners of the v. the sheet metal warped quite a bit on the out side. Hope it doesnt crack. I didnt think about that. Good thinking about starting building them. Go to junk yards and buy them. Hmm... good idea thanks RedTaurus94
mbnv992, to be honest I started it about a year ago. I get spurts of energy and work on my multiple projects. total I have about 5-6 hours into it. wasnt to difficult, I just get distracted quickly and start more projects. I have about $350 into it. the $300 is from the body shop that used the body filler and painted it. It was mainly just my time and the latches.
You should market it as the "Gunsight Tailgate"...taking aim at tailgaters! It looks like my old Williams folding leaf sight off the old '98 Mauser action.
Cool
