Sorry to be ignorant but I've owned my truck since I bought it new in 2008. Lately I hear this single clank sound about 5-10 seconds after I turn the truck off. So I decided to open the hood to see where the sound was coming from. So what I found was a small arm that pops backward 5-10 seconds after the engine is turned off and this is whats making the noise. Now maybe its suppose to do this and I'm just now noticing but normally I'm pretty aware of my equipment so just wanted to be sure. What is the arm for in the picture and what does it do? Lastly, should it operate like I am describing?
Thanks in advance.
By the way go to my gallery and check out picture under "what is this thing". Let me know what you think. For some reason the picture is rotated. Not sure why but can't seem to correct it.
That is the actuator for the low pressure turbo vanes. It should not make a "clank" sound. It is normal for it to move once before and after the engine runs.
Thanks Senix for posting the pic. Nowiperblades: i will watch it closer. This evening it did not make the clank sound but did every time yesterday. Basically it slams toward the truck cab 5-10 seconds after engine shutdown. Truck still running like a beast but I'm getting ready to take a big load north in 2 weeks so want to head off trouble if needed.
