Edge Revolution

Hi all,

I am not a new member but have recently picked up a 1999 F-250 7.3L, 6 speed manual, two wheel drive crewcab. The truck allready has an Edge Evolution programmer installed in it. Right now it is set to factory and averaging 17 mpg.

Does anyone know about this programmer and have an idea which settings will help with fuel mileage?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Edge Evolution....grrr i am such a tard

now that i look this probably should have been in the 1999-2003 7.3L section.

Mods if you want to move it that would be great.

I would leave it in stock. 17mpg is probably nearing the limit (although you could push it to 19 hwy if youre careful).

The edge tuner in a generic tuner, that is one size fits all. It is no good for your truck.
If you want a tuner, try selling the Edge and getting a tuner from a custom tuner such as DP Tuner or PHP Tuning (there are others). These places tune SPECIFICALLY for your truck.

I have an Edge Evolution and it works great in my truck. I like it alot for what I do with my truck. I don't pull sleds or race it so I don't need some custom tune.

BTW, if you decide it is no good and you don't want it, I'll pay for shipping and handling

You dont need a custom tune ONLY if you do those things.
Its not that the Edge is okay and custom tunes are better...
Its that the Edge is a square ped in a round hole, and the custom tuners are round pegs in round holes.

Sure the edge fits... But ....

Besides, a custom tuner from PHP is no more expensive than an Edge box.

The argument pro and con for the Edge has gone back and forth on FTE for years. Agreement about the value of custom tunes is far from universal.

Regarding mileage specifically, I am doubtful you will improve your current MPG unless you can do so with driving technique. I have occasionally hit 19-20 on the highway, but not by doing anything in terms of equipment, 17 is about my norm. The 7.3s are heavy beasts and 17 mpg is not bad, IMO. I would add I have been following this topic for years and remain unimpressed with tunes, custom or otherwise, improving on mileage.

Just my thoughts.

I've never claimed to get much better mileage because of my tuner. But I get more power, with no sacrifice of fuel economy. That equals a net increase in efficiency.

I realize that. The OP was specifically asking about increasing mileage.

The factory setting should be the best setting for fuel economy.
As with any supercharged engine...fuel economy is largely dependent on driving style. If you are interested in maximum fuel economy then stick with the stock tire size and check the air pressure often. Then drive like there is an egg under the pedal....seriously.

In my opinion, the Edge programmer you have is just fine for your truck. For me, most of the benefits of custom tuning has as much to do with the performance of the automatic transmission as the performance of the engine. Since you have a manual trans, you are fine with the programmer you have.

My $0.02....

With a 6sp. you will get the best mileage driving about 45 mph. Leave it in stock and take some back roads.....
