Hey I remember this build..

1987 and older jag XJ6 and any year XJS have the subframes you want.

And just to show that this build is not dead even though the cab is in body shop jail, here are some metal repair pics of the cab.

Front upper windshield channel

Inside upper valence rusted as well, mouse nest did it in.

And of course the haircut

Slid the crossmember back just behind the trans and made a pattern for the mounting tab, transferred to steel and welded on with some support tabs.

Installed, worked great.

Engine at 3 degrees down with the frame level

Just have to drill the holes in the frame to bolt the crossmember into its new position, should look pretty much like a factory install.
dave did you reverse the trany xmember? I've been thinking about doing that on my truck

Welcome to the best site for Fat fender Fords! You have to post picutres if you really want a lot of responses - we all love to see these trucks! The Jag XJ or XJS will work but only certain years-I can't find thread to tell you but will keep looking or someone will jump in. I beleive it is the round headlight years that work but not positive. I used an 86 XJS on my F3 - check out "JEFF and NICOLES" build thread - he has done a good job with it. Have fun and show us what you have!

Yes I did, but for no good reason, it could of gone back in either way.

I've looked Mustang II IFS kits and crown vic front ends, my issues is shipping from the USA to the UK is as much as the components in some cases. Glad iv come accross people using JAG kits though as naturally there is an abundance of jag parts here. So the big question, what subframe am i looking for? Off what cars?

Not trying to clutter my own thread, but XJ6/XJ12 can be used up to 1987. Both my trucks use 1986 pieces. I already posted pictures of the desired body styles.

Any more front end questions please start a new thread

OOOHHHH NOOOO

You original post to this thread you stated you picked up a "F100" if this is the case (since you didn't add a year) you will need a wider front end than the one you purchased, most use the aluminum crown vic for f100's. Although I believe the newer Jags have a wider ifs as well just not sure of width. This would only help you you got yours from a Junkyard and they may swap you for a newer version 87 up xj's etc. I realizes people misspeak about f1's and call them f100's just wanted to jump in for clarification. Oh and if you indeed have an F1 a late 70's plymouth Volare front end works as well, brakes system isnt the cheapest but another option for a complete drop in.

Not exactly. Here is an example for you.

I followed a link from the Australian Ozrodders site to this page and I wish we could buy parts as cheap in Australia as you guys can.
After reading through the 28 pages of this post I was surprised that you decided to cut the front springs down (page 22, post 319) because when I fitted a Jag front end to my Inter I had to upgrade my front springs to XJ12 springs because my ute was way too low and the wishbones were angled upwards. Like yourself I found that when I was doing my build the front end sat on the bump stops with the engine in and I couldn't make it move even if I jumped up and down on the chassis. But once I started to fit the body, fenders, radiator, etc the suspension started to compress and by the time I was finished the standard springs were too weak. Funny how the combined weight of seats, carpet, instruments, wiring, windscreen, door glass etc adds to the overall weight.
FYI I fitted an injected 5 litre GM and my front axle weight was 800kg (1760lbs for you imperial guys)

Below is a link to my build which is a bit disjointed but there are some photos of the Jag front and IRS that I fitted to my chassis

Cheers GB

Hi,
I think I am going to have to pull those cut front springs and put in a set of stock XJ6 springs. I cut them as an experiment, but after seeing how my truck #2 sits with the stock uncut XJ6 springs I dont think they needed to be cut. This is truck #2 and it sits right where I want it. I have to get a current picture, I think it even settled down a little more since this one was taken. But no way would I need XJ12 springs, my lower control arms are no where near level, they are angled down I think about 10 degrees, but I would have to measure again to be sure.

FWIW for those who were following this build of truck #1 it is not dead, just on hold. Plans are for paint and assembly this summer, and I have to throw the last few parts on truck #2 but it is already running and driving.

Had to take an F1 break and put a jag IFS in my current 41 caddy project, I am easily distracted

Short answer is no, I still do not have my cab, just about everything else is here.
Complete chassis sits in the corner covered up waiting! Luckily for me I am always building something so I haven't pushed too hard to get it back, but if I don't have it by the end of summer I will get it and finish it up myself. I have learned a lot since this build was started and there are some things I am going to change.
Truck #2 gets tail pipes, radio installed, and a few details and it is finished. It is a blast to drive but I will update that thread when I do the work.
Just pulled this CV front end out last week for the next truck build, always something being put together!
