1999 F250 SD V10 I recently replaced the in-tank fuel pump and filter. I operated the truck briefly after and everything was normal. I parked it with about 1/4 tank of new fuel and put it on a battery tender. It was parked in a garage on level ground in temperate weather(Southern Calif.). Two months later I tried to start it and it acted like it did when the fuel pump was bad. Cranked fine but no hint of starting. Could it be the fuel lines have become full of air and need purging through Schrader valve ? I haven't begun to troubleshoot but I'm looking for suggestions on what to check other than pushing the fuel relay reset button. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. As part of replacing the fuel pump I also replaced the pick up tube assembly. I was careful doing the installation ( I lifted the utility bed high enough to roll the truck out from under it and worked on the pump without removing the tank.) When I had completed the job the truck started fine and I drove it around a few blocks up and down hills and THEN added fuel to bring it up to the 1/4 tank level. But I will try adding more fuel to see if that helps. I intend to check voltages at the emergency fuel shutoff to see if juice is getting to the pump. And i will try cranking the engine while holding the Shrader valve open to bleed the fuel rail of any air. If the fuel pump is getting voltage at the appropriate time then I'm worried that the new pump may have decided to fail from just sitting for a couple of months.
Start with code ck . Then fuel pressure ck . You may have a simple electrical issue . Switch your fuel pump relay with the horn relay , or another similar relay . You can spend a lot of money guessing ! Best of luck !
No need to purge air... Turn key to run and listen to pump come on for 2 seconds then shut off.. Does it do this? Prob not. Have someone bang on tank whilst turning key on and off. Pump might start... Sometimes pumps will stick...
