There are times when civil disobedience is mandatory for true citizens of the US!
Not going to get on my soapbox (it would be so easy to do right now) which I figure I'm no different from most here, all that said to say this: Way to go Greatest Generation for showing how to lead when the going gets tough. Still conquering injustices 72 years later.
Here in NE PA we have the Tocks Island Recreational Area, where the National Park Service has closed the Delaware River off, gated roads and beaches, closed a local Outreach Facility, and closed a church because it and the Outreach facility, which is a daily food distribution site, are located within the " Park ". A local family is mourning the loss of their Mother, and now cannot hold the funeral in their church. How absurd is this??? Oh yeah, they also covered Mt. Rushmore today using helicopters and tarps......

Here, Here! The humility they tend to show for being recognized for "just doing our duty.........." is as humbling as anything I've felt in a long, long time. They simply don't understand being thanked for their service.

If they were still in their prime, they wouldn't stand for it........
While we stand around with our hands in our pockets.
I'm a mere 62 and for a long time have been embarrassed going into anger at the worst parts of our nation these days. Perhaps I too am of the lot with hands in pockets which isn't an encouraging thought for me.
I do know collectively we've lost our resolve to take charge of things and make the tough choices. Mired in the BS of not wanting to offend others who show us little or no respect makes me wonder WHY? We can't celebrate holidays and occasions because they're not 100% inclusive. No Christmas displays or celebrations in public places, Halloween is nothing more than encouraging demon worship, Easter too much based in Christianity---this list grows each year it seems.
Yet let the less than one or two percent of the entire nation claim some sort of mistreatment and we'll cater to them without question. We have to rename our sports teams because they're offending a few, the fact that some names actually celebrate the spirit of a people. Holy crap as I write this I'm equally embarrassed because I've got warm hands but yet know what's best or right for the most is always over ridden by the fractured needs and wants of the few.
Gone are the days when we could say: "if you don't like it just ignore it........", replaced by the here and now where it's "hell YES sir or ma'am----I'll stop being American because you don't share my pride in what was once a great place!"

Don't be hard on yourself. Your not alone. Most people now days are standing around, hands in their pockets looking down at the ground kicking imaginary rocks while muttering What can I do? "...America stand beside her and guide her..."
I'm not really that hard on myself but thanks for bucking me up!
I guess these days where we're under a constant barrage of news coverage of our worst moments and events like this current gov't BS, boys peeing on one another's issues "just because.........." gives a feeling there's too much to set right, not enough time to get 'em all sorted out.
This shut down only highlights the foolishness of the fools we've unwittingly elected to represent us and that we're somewhat powerless to make one huge sweeping change in the whole damn lot of them. I used to tsk, tsk, tsk at countries who fired every one of their congress & senate counterparts for crap like we're experiencing today. I don't think that's such a bad idea now.
Problem is staggered term endings prevents us from collectively booting one batch out with the "hope" the new would do better, or less bad.
Even with all the bad news I know we're still a great place and there's no other place I'd rather live!
