use a cat1 elc coolant and add a coolant filter. Right now your oil cooler has the smallest passages in your motor and is acting as your filter. You need something smaller to catch the particals before they enter your cooler
These are excellent recommendations.

The other thing about the green coolant is that it will give you no cavitation protection for your cylinder walls because it doesn't have the proper additive package.

Is this time the truck has been worked real hard after any cooling system work? If so they tend to puke a tad until the level is just right. I wouldn't jump the gun unless it consistently pukes . You should find out what they used for coolant

you guys are awesome and all such a moral booster. Ever since I bought the truck it seems it's been conditioned to think that the 6.0 will at some point have issues. You are always on alert to watch out for clues so it wont leave you stranded someplace. I am always trying to be proactive and I might have been jumping the gun, so I will get a new cap and run it more, find out what coolant they used at the shop. It was worked pretty hard in August, the Cajon Pass and the pass out of Bishop, Ca both are long 4-6% grades.

thanks again for all the suggestions.

Just a follow-up on this post. I finally remembered to call the place that did the work on my truck in regards to the green coolant.

He says that he uses World Class from Evergreen, which is a yellowish green tint. He uses because it will mix with any of the coolants out there. He also added that the Ford gold coolant is one of the reasons why there are so many issues with oil coolers failures, Ford promised a 100k mile coolant and what people were getting were clogged oil coolers. He promotes that I change my coolant every 6 months, that most coolant breaks down in that time, and to ward off any issues to change coolant often.
he also highly recommends that the stock water pump be changed to a metal design, the plastic does not hold on the stock version.

This is his opinion, I guess take it for face value.

I made a apt to have the coolant flushed, and pressure test the cooling system. I was thinking that this diesel is worse then a german car for maintenance. should have gotten the gas...

Let me guess, appointment with that guy, who will put a generic green coolant and he'll flush it every 6 months and refill with extended life anti-freeze that will only last 6 months? It's no wonder people hate these damn 6.0's. That guy is ripping you off!

I Binged and Googled, the best I could come up is the link below. But I am not certain that was it. Never heard of it before.

Products & Services- Antifreeze

I'll get more info when I bring the truck in. he offered to use the Ford Gold if that makes me feel better.

Xerex ELC Cat EC-1 on the front of the bottle. Most napa stores have it. It's what international rund in these engines. Do a good fish with 16 gallons of distilled and top off with the full strength. Drain and refill every two years. I know some will say every year, but that stuff can go 300,000 miles.

Ford still offers the VC-8 coolant additive that is supposed to prevent cavitation when using green coolant. Since the egr cooler has been deleted and an external oil cooler installed, I wouldn't see any reason why green would not work in his truck. But, I can't think of any reason to use it, other than saving a few bucks.

Anyway, I don't know how much I would trust a shop that uses generic coolant in a diesel, especially a 6.0l. Just because they work on a lot of them doesn't mean they necessarily know what's best for them.
