I have a friend with an 01 f250 super duty who needs to replace sway bar bushings. Any advice/tips on doing them and also recommendations for replacement parts? Thanks
Stay away from the Energy suspension units, they make too much noise. Tried several different greases before getting rid of them. For the end links you can get OE replacements with zerk fittings all assembled and ready to go. You can replace just the guts of the end links but they pressed in hard, 20+ton press comes in handy.
The center 2 bushings get an OE or a direct replacement like Raybestos. Make sure they fit the straps right and the ID matches the diameter of the sway bar or you will get slop and a bumping noise. One pair of aftermarket center bushings I got did not fit the straps right and bumped.
Second dkf. I installed the Energy Suspension urethane bushings in my worn-out end links and no matter how I lubed them, they were always "clicking." Finally manned up and bought factory end links and the clicking noise was a thing of the past.
I have tightened my Energy Suspension bushings several times, and that got rid of the clunk. They need to be very tight - not just 'bushing tight'. I would buy the style that has the integrated ball-socket ends, if I had it to do over.
