e250 sway bar bushings

So I'm trying to track down a 'ticking//clicking' noise in my front suspension of my 2001 e250, and i'm looking at the sway bar. It doesn't have end links, but has bushings that are mounted into the beam. So here's my question: in these bushings, is there supposed to be a gap around the sway bar? Or should it fit snug?
