63 F100, new to me
Previous owner replaced the clutch and throwout bearing and had flywheel resurfaced. No change. Nothing loose in the springs front and rear, nor the motor mounts. Appears dry. I want to save taking the trans out again for last resort after I have eliminated other possibilities. I tuned it up, which I think will help but not solve. I did notice that the front cab mounts are just about gone. I don't feel the cab moving, but should I be suspecting that? What would be the next things you would check?
I would almost put money on your cab mounts being the problem. If they are all rusted then the cab moves a lot and since the clutch linkage is mounted to the cab, any movement in the cab affects the geometry of the linkage, and the force applied to release the clutch so the cab vibrates and you get chatter.
I had the same problem on mine. After I replaced the cab mount, it went away.
I think it will either end up the pilot or the cab being the culpret. Its funny that the floor isn't bad, but the supports where the mounts are is gone right at the mounts. Do they make replacements for that area?
The motor mounts have some cracking, but they seem to be holding the motor firmly. I could not move anything much from under the vehicle at the output shaft.
Watched the motor while engaging clutch, and it is not moving. I am considering another possibility: It may not be clutch. At low rpm if I lug it in other gears it bucks as well. Same thing? Maybe not. But maybe engine tune is not helping matters either. Plugs new. Timing done. Dwell checked. Wires and cap probably could use replaced.
Have you ck'ed center support if two piece drive shaft ck diff input shaft for movement/bearing is there any noise when rolling without engine running?
Here are some picts of the clutch. One segment looks hot. Same on the flywheel. Any thoughts?
The pilot is just a bushing, not a bearing. The bearing was in the box with the old clutch, and I could install it. The pilot doesn't seem loose on the shaft.
Try shaking the pilot shaft to see if it moves at all side to side or forward and back.
Also try placing the pilot bushing/bearing on the pilot shaft to check for slop.
Clutch chatter is caused by the friction plate not being in line with the flywheel and pressure plate when the three come together.
The only other possible cause would be a bent pilot shaft.

Will check these things. Thank you. More please! I am into using the shotgun approach as long as I have it out. I am thinking about having the flywheel resurfaced to get the ugliness and cracks out/off. Not much I can do with the pressure plate I assume unless I replace it.
