EFI 460 timing
#16
You need to unplug the spout connector first and *then* set the distributor to 12°
On your 250, the computer in the DS kick panel is damaged.
Either get a refurbished one or open it up and see if it is just the capacitors, which you can replace for about $5 if you have skill with a soldering iron.

I was searching through the archives and came across this thread. I read it and I still can't seem to get my timing set up correctly. I am experiencing the same issue with my 460 in my 1990 F350 4x4. It seems to lack power compared to what a 460 should have. I currently have the timing set at 12 degrees. When I unplug the connector that runs to the distributer, the engine dies. I have a F250 also with the 460 and when I unplugged that truck to adjust the timing it runs without that connector. What am I doing wrong? Please assist.

I had to add a timing mark on a big block Ford motor home one time. Could see the mark and pointer when engine wasn't running. Wasn't sticking my head in there when it was running. Set the existing pointer to tdc. Went underneath and fabricated and attached another pointer to the eng. Then Marked harmonic balancer with a punch and some white paint. Used a advancing timing light to set the timing.

1995 f 250 2x4 with 460
I replaced the distributor the person stated he didn't time it very well only replacing it on the mark he had set. Truck starts and runs great except it seems to miss when getting on the throttle a little but it runs smoothly after that.is the off timing causing this?
