I'm changing my alternator. Do you have to disconnect batteries when you do this if you are very careful. I know they say to disconnect batteries every time you do any work but that means the truck has to go through its learning process.
The alternator 'charge' wire is hot. I guess you could just remove it & secure it making sure it is very well insulated.
When I did mine, I disconnected the batteries. I've done work before on another project where I've removed & insulated hot wires successfully..... Reinstalling them caused fuses to blow & parts to be damaged.
Parts store has a 9v battery on a cigarette lighter plug, or you can rig one if your handy. Just a few bucks and it maintains memory while the battery's are out. Works well on most vehicles but I haven't tried on a SuperDuty.
