suspension?

Was really interested in doing a straight axle conversion on my 92 f250. Was hoping someone might have some info on this. Like what kind of axle to buy. What kind of truck to look for at the boneyard etc. Also I tried posting in the wanted ads but it wont let me. If any body has a rad dor my 92 ( automatic with the big core support please get in t8uch with me) I am in need of one badly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Posting where you're at would help things a little.

You want a Dana 60 from an F350. Older ones are kingpin, newer ones are ball-joint. From a 4wd F250, it's a straight swap. Old axle out, new axle in. Done. 2wd truck is a little more involved. This whole topic has been covered a lot over different forums; I'm sure there's a good write up buried in this site somewhere.

Sorry about that. I live in west virginia. I have a 92 f250 automatic 4x4. Looking to do a solid axle conversion.

You have the easy conversion then. It's the 2wd to 4x4 that's more difficult. You literally drop your Dana 50 TTB axle out, and put a Dana 60 straight axle in it's place. Then you hook everything back up as if it were factory installed.

The biggest aspect of doing this swap is finding a reasonably priced D60, those things have become like gold bars that last few years and to find a good one will cost a lot of pretty pennies!

Forget the boneyards. Those guys know exactly what they have in that axle. I would look into the Sky mfg shackle reversal kit while you are at it. Around 300 bucks, and you can ditch the track bar. I did one on my 94 by myself in a long day. An awesome difference in ride, and less parts to break and fix down the road. Alignments are DIY too!

Good luck,

Mac.

If a Dana 60 is too hard for you to find, you can always use Super duty axles instead. They require a little more fab work to get it done though. Springs are different and that means the spring mounts need mod'ed. And if you go that route, you'll want a matching set of axles since the bolt patterns for wheels are different than the OBS wheels.
