#5 Washed Out?

Hi Everyone.
My truck has had morning sickness running rough and blowing white smoke for some time now. Always cleared up once I got it out on the road. It started to have intermittent rough idle problems and got to the point to a steady miss. ONLY AT IDLE. IT WOULD STRAIGHTEN OUT WHEN IT GIVE IT THROTTLE. Broke down one day. It was bad IPR. replaced it and also went under the covers and replaced the UVCH. I was lucky to find a local guy with AE and did tests and all seemed ok except 1 weak inj #5. Went all through the truck except as far as Compression test. Truck recently developed blow by. Mechanic says that he thinks #5 cyl has been washed out. Truck runs decent on hyw even under load but around the city... Crapola
Am I doing more damage driving it the way it is?
Is there anything I can do to help it along. Can't afford a rebuild or used mtr right now. Miss seems to straighten out over 1500 rpms I was thinking of putting a cold start tune on it. Cant stand the miss, Driving me Craaaazy

Thoughts please

If it is a cylinder... it will only get worse.
Eventually it will no longer be rebuildable, or catastrophically fail.

Used motor if all else fails from a junkyard...
750-1200 range

2 ton engine crane. Around 200$

Hand tools. Should already have them eh?

Vs.
Blowing the motor on the road... crazy stress
Tow... minimum 250$ much more if your in the middle of nowhere.
An "i r mikanik" monkey... untold gobs of dough. 900-1500 labor... like 14hrs book time
+ their markup if you get stuck buying a motor from them... 3k, 4k?

You cant afford NOT to address it now man.

Thanks for the reply. I know I will need to do something soon. Just when I get her going on the HWY it runs so good. Doesn't miss a beat. I really was just hoping it was not at a SERIOUS stage where I could use it. It is my only means of transportation and use it for a living everyday. Times are tight and need to prolong it until I can figure something out.
Not sure what caused all of this mess.

Are you in FL? My buddy has a few engines he bought for our S. African member. Plans changed and he has been instructed to sell those engines. If interested I can link y'all up, engines are in Stuart.

Yes. I am on the Other coast (Tampa) I know no yards over this way have any motors. Still not afraid of this truck to take the trip to pick up.

I just gave him a call, he's got a few, but one in particular has good compression and would be ~$500. I don't want to post his phone number and don't think you can receive PMs yet. Can you post your phone or email and I'll get you his contact info.

I still don't understand how a cyl gets washed out or how it runs rough at idle but seems ok while at higher rpms ? I understand it has blow by now and it has a problem but what? Rings?

a temporary "limp" i have used to help friends with bad compression on gassers is to puor a little stp "engine honey" in the cylinder, crank it a few times with the plug out to avoid locking it. has anyone tried this to delay a rebuild on these things?

howd you determine blowby? Oil cap upside down? Is it smoke pouring out oil fill tube or is there pressure?

Blow by when you take the oil cap off. More puffing than i have seen also oil leaks. See excessive oil coming from element on lh valve cover. Not terrible just notice more. Truck runs good on highway . Real rough idle.
Just don't know what has led to this. Kept oil changed in fact no sludge under valve covers and never beat on. Stock everything except dp tuner economic flash
What causes a washed out cylinder ? What exactly does it mean?
Sorry im no mechanic here. Know enough to get by most of the time.
Stumped

I believe too much fuel can cause wash down. It's were the fuel washes the oil off the cylinder wall and causes wear.

From what I have read, a faulty injector could cause it.

Well as i type here on my android i am waiting on a tow truck. I had a job interview that i did not get the job and went to leave and the truck won't start. I did have the trusty old new cps in the glove box but that wasent the problem. I have issues more than a bad cal. Checked all connections and have fuel pressure . It just May need a hpop too. Not sure if its worth putting one on and still have a bad cylinder. Gonna chalk this up as a real bad day and a long ride home with a AAA tow truck driver. (atleast i had a tow left)

Intermittent problems suck to diagnose. Sucks about the job and truck. If you haven't done a compression test, start there. If compression is good then start looking into the problem.
