35MPH Vibration

I have been slowly getting my truck into running order and have recently finished replacing the shocks, radius arm and axle pivot bushings. When I was done the bad vibration I was having at 65/70MPH was gone but it still shakes like crazy at 35.

Everything I have been reading up to now suggests either wheel balance or drive shaft balance but in my experience those usually show up at higher speeds and an out of balance wheel can usually felt in some steering wheel wobble but the wheel is not vibrating. The whole truck is.

Does anybody have any other ideas? I am leaning towards a bad king pin since I have only replaced one of those when I first got the truck and replaced the drivers side spindle. Beyond that I am out of ideas, I just can't figure out what might be causing such a weird vibration at such a low speed.

Is everything on the front-end tight? any slop in the steering linkage? anywhere?

Sometimes that stuff, e.g. loose tie-rod end etc. can reveal itself at certain speeds and be almost non-existent at other times.

mine vibrates at 35-40 mph but never at any other speed. I have a slightly warped brake rotor that I think may be causing the problem.

Most bad tie rod ends that I've been around only shake and drive bad for a certain 5 - 15 mph range.

I have recently replaced all of the steering so it's all brand new. About all that hasn't been replaced is the brakes and kingpin on the passenger side front wheel. Which I assumed would be okay but it makes sense that it might be an issue.

If it's the kingpin at fault it's in the early stages...

It will eventually turn into the dreaded "death wobble".

Wait. Could it be a dented rim? On my first ford I had a dented rim (on the inner lip so I couldnt see it). That thing waddled like a duck going down the road. Didnt find the dent in the rim lip until I ran my finger over it.

Aww crap, I was really hoping to avoid another king pin replacement. Last time was not fun. Kind of wishing I hadn't blown off the entire weekend now.

Depends on how often you want to replace them.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I was just up in your state earlier this month. Damned pretty part of the world, drove over the Bear Tooth Pass. Kinda glad I did it in a rented Nissan.

That's one of our more beautiful locales... if you were here recently you would of seen snow capped peaks in the Beartooth range....

It could be any number of things! But just to rule it out, jack the truck up and spin each wheel. Look for an exaggerated high/low spot in the tire that might indicate a tread seperation or broken cord. Vibrations from tire seperations tend to smooth out at higher speeds and wobble like hell at lower speeds!
