Well.. I read the thread 3 times I think, maybe 4. It was either read it again oooooor... order the gear to make it happen!!! There was a smart ole man that used to tell me "Dont talk about it, be about it!" Gear is now on order, should all be at the house mid to late next week. I am pretty excited to get this install done!! Will post pics when all is done!! I am loving this place for ideas, my savings account, not as much hahaha Keep the pics and ideas coming!!
I finally was able to get around to my install of the 3528 LEDs, but I used blue instead of white as I have blue lights in my truck. I purchased mine on eBay as well. I had to order everything from online and I would say I have a total of $40.00ish? in the light kit.
I also wanted to be able to turn the lights on at any time (toggle switch) and when I opened the tailgate (installed a magnetic switch). So I ran mine as above and put everything through a relay. Took about 2hrs total install time. It works perfect. I can get power to the lights through the toggle switch at anytime or as long as the tailgate is open I can get lights through the fob (key remote) or door keypad
(whispers: "I did not stop with lights, did the DeeZee easy down tailgate, Hopkins Lift Assit, Bull Dog Pad Lock, Pop and Lock to unlock tailgate with fob or door lock/unlock button on driver's side, Extend-a-bed and of course the Bed Rug")
Here is few pics of mine after the install:
Over all I was super happy happy with the install!! Great idea, Thanks for the write up!!
Quick question, did you guys just wire them directly to the battery?
I worked through a relay. 1 line from the battery direct working a toggle switch, one line from the parking/courtesy lights working off a magnetic switch hooked to the tail gate.
I can flick them on anytime with the toggle switch or.. with the tailgate
That's cool, where did you get the magnetic switch? I'd love to do that i cant see crap under my tonneau cover at night and my phone light doesn't help a whole lot trying to see all the way to the back.
I do have a BedRug and no I do not have a cover as of yet. I can not decide on a cover. I want a solid cover, that can fold up and work with a over the bed rail tool box.
You are right about Texas and yes we do get some rain, but it stays indoors most days as I spend a fair amount of time gone. However, lets face it, I live in almost desert country and when we get 4-6" of rain, that is how far apart the drops fall from each other, not how much rain fall we got ROFLMBO!!
