Thinking of buying a ew 2014 F350 Crew 4x4 8' box, 6.7.
I tow a 6800 lb travel trailer with a boat on top of truck. Question is the truck I'm looking at as 3.31 rear gears, the 2005 6.0 I have now has 3.55 gears. will the new truck pull as well as the old? With the extra torque will the new truck pull as well as the old off the line and up hills?
thanks
400, 800. Gears will not be a problem from what I have seen on this board. Remember you have also got a true 6 speed to boot. That's a light trailer for a SD, even with the wind resistance of boat on top.
I used to have a 6.0L that was set-up nice. It pulled outstanding and I didn't want to mess up a good thing. I had a 6.4L and a 1/2 gasser in between the 6.0L and my 6.7L but I can tell you that a stock 6.7L will out pull a 6.0L every time. Even with 3.31 gears pulling against the wind, up a 7 degree incline, it will out perform a 6.0L pulling with the wind, on level ground, with a 3.55 rear end. I will add the ride quality will be an unreal improvment. Do what I did...tote your trailer nearby the dealer and take it for a pull with the new truck and see the difference to yourself. My dealer let me pull the trailer right on the lot (my tag, not my fiver). Most will not. Find a big parking lot and tell the salesman you need an hour. Go hook up and try it for yourself.

Don't worry about the gear difference. There is basically no change between the two do to different tire size.
I was under the impression that both my 05 and the 2014 had 18" tires? At least the info states 18" is standard on the Lariat, doesn't my 05 have a true 6 speed?
And thanks, gonna pull trailer
The 3:31 gears come with the 18" wheels. While the 3:55 usually come with 20" wheels , So effectively you get about the same ratio after taking the difference in tire diameter into consideration.
I've put 60K on my truck since May of this year, hauling RV's.
My 3:55 and 17" wheels are perfect where the speed limits are 55-60 mph or less, but I'm really wishing I had gone with the 3:31 when the speed limits get higher.
The only thing you'll notice with the load you're describing, is less fuel economy, and a better ride due to some weight on the truck.

hm.. I thought it was (unless u changed wheel sizes for some reason)
3.55 and 20's
3.31 and 18's (my 12 250)
17's are on the dually with 3.73 (my 12 350 drw)

Purchased new with 3:55 electronic locker & LT265/70R17, may have been an optional setup.
My point was simply that running two lane in WA and OR the 3:55's are great staying around +/-1500 rpm, but on the four lanes with higher speeds my mileage suffers from the lower gearing. The 6.7L has plenty of power and likes to run around 1600 rpm.

yes.. I would LOVE 3.31 on my dually. running about 3mpg less with the 3.73's
