Bulletproofed now no start

I just had a local mechanic install the Bulletproof external oil cooler on my 04 Excursion. FWIW he is ASE certified and has worked on Powerstrokes before, however this is his first Bulletproof installation. He said he drove it about 40 miles. I picked it up yesterday and have driven it about 80 miles with no issues until this afternoon. I made a 30 minute stop at the local Walmart. When I got in the X to leave it fired up then immediately shut down. It will spin over but not fire. I can't find any obvious problems so what should I be looking for? Per the Scangauge the IPR number goes to 85 while cranking and the ICP to only to 12 if I was reading it correctly. I honestly was unable to spend much time with it but I am going back. Thoughts or comments appreciated. Mods are in my signature. Thanks

After doing more research, hopefully I have answered my own question. It appears that a common issue after work on the oil cooler is IPR damage from debris. I will report back with my findings. Thanks for reading.

That would be the most likely cause of the low ICP. Any trash that gets in the hpop reservoir will end up in the IPR valve.

If the work did damage the IPR, the mechanic should repair this at no charge. Oil coolers are replaced all the time without damaging the IPR. You have to be careful about dirt and lint in the reservoir, and you MUST cleant the IPR screen before putting it back together. An experience mechanic knows this.

New shop in Kenly NC. I don't want to say too much about it until I see how it all works out.

Update

Sorry for leaving this hanging. Had other unrelated issues take precedence. The rest of this story is an IPR screen kit did not solve the "no start" problem, but a new IPR did. The mechanic and I worked out a compromise. I came out ahead on the dollar cost of the total project, time wise not so much. Thanks for reading.

First,

Thanks for the update .... A courtesy few provide.

Are you saying the ipr screen was blown? Usually when these screens blow the ipr is also shot because it got debris in it. Those screens are there for a reason. The new ipr should not have cost you anything.

When he pulled the IPR out, the screen was not broken just dirty and plugged up. That is why we tried the kit. When that didn't fix it he replaced it. I paid for the kit, but not the IPR or the labor.

Good deal. Sounds like you've got an honest mechanic.
