Electrical issues

So im driving along today on base going about 30 mph and i hear what sounds like a relay disenge(single click). Simultaneously, i see a few indicators on the dash light up. The engine stayed runnng, but i had no accelerator input. So i pulled over and by the time i get to a stop, all the lights on the dash were gone and my accelerator input returned and i pulled away like nothing happened. Does anyone kkow what this could be?

Sounds like a relay that is sticking. Is your accelerator electronic or pull cable? It could have been a relay in there or a potentiometer.

OOPs. Guess i need a Fuse Chart for a later model. Still would look at fuse panel to make sure it's not wet.

It did rain quite a bit for about a day and half here about a week ago after a 6 week drought. However, I checked under my mats and there was no wetness or signs of water to be found. I got a chance to check out my fuse panel and did find one blown fuse. It was fuse #12, the cigar lighter/OBD II reader fuse. Replaced it. I also checked for signs of water and found nothing.

As far as fuses 15 and 16 and what you stated they were for, my owners manual states different. It labels fuse 15 as drivers seat module memory and fuse 16 as rear seat contoller(not sure what that is even for? anyone?). I'm guessing you probably have a different year model.

Anyway, so after determining my fuses to be good, anyone got any clue as to what else this could be? As I was driving along today, the engine just all of a sudden died on me. Pulled over, put it on park, and it fired right back up. Could this be a CPS issue? My CPS has been already been replaced twice.

Thanks for any help on this guys.

I had a similar issue on my '02 and it ended up being the IPR (Injection pressure regulator). Changed it and have not had a problem since.

Have you checked for any codes? If Makeroff hasn't already packed it, he has a good code reader. Also, I know it's a different type of engine but, in my ranger, I ran into a similar issue with a vacuum line. It had a small slit in it on the backside and took forever to figure out.

Do you happen to know the ford part #? Also, does anyone have the steps to troubleshoot the IPR?

I rebuilt mine per instructions on here but I had the same problem because the rebuild does nothing for the electrical coil that activates it. My coil had issues that only showed up when it got warm.

Here is the part through Clay but it also gives you the factory part number. I was in a hurry and got mine through a local parts house that i have an account with.

Well, I think I may have figured out the culprit. I recently installed a set of retrofit headlights with HID's from CT performance. If you guys havent seen these yet, they are pretty awesome. I will be doing a full review on these if they work out for me. True Projection Hids - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

They keep your truck looking stock(which I like for the headlights) while having a true low beam/high beam projection headlight.

Anyway, All of these problems started right after the install and I, for some reason, didnt make the connection. I was sitting parked yesterday and was messing with my headlight switch. I turned it off and then back on and my truck sounded like it was about to die, but didnt. All of the same lights warning on the dash lighted up like before. I tried this about three more times to see if I could replicate it, and it happened twice more. Not sure if I may have knicked a wire during the install, or if its something in the wiring for the new HID/projection headlights.

To see if it is the new setup causing the issues, I will be putting the stock setup up back in to see if the problem persist.

The HIDs are interfering with your tuner make sure you have a GOOD SOLID CLEAN ground and some ferrite beads on the cable going from the chip to the switcher will take care of it as well

Can you expand on this? How would be HID's interfere with my tuner?
