My girlfriend has been driving my truck to work the last week.
I got in to it today to go to the Dr's office that is about a mile away.
First thing i notice is that it sounds like the clutch fan is engaged.
I didn't have time to check till after my appointment.
Got home and sure enough it is froze up, ( LOCKED ) So it needs to be replaced.
here's my question that i already know the answer to..
Everything is closed right now and we can't pick up her car from the auto body shop until tomorrow night.
She needs to get to work and back tomorrow and her work is about 6 miles away.. Think it would be kinda safe for her to go at low rpms ?
I know.. i already know that answer but there is noting i can do at this time of night and i can't get to it until tomorrow night.
Found a late night O' Cry'lees open till 10 pm that had one in stock. now im crying because my wallet is $200 lighter..
wish i would had had the time to replace it with something from Clay but with her car gone right now.. just had to bite the bullet..
What made you think you couldn't drive it with a locked fan clutch?
Of course you could!
It de-clutches only for fuel economy and lessened noise.
Prior to the government's various bureaucracies getting into mandating aspects of vehicle design, there was no such thing as a fan clutch. You got full air flow all the time.

thanks anyway guys
You could have just taken it off.. Its not hot enough here to necessitate one, and wait until the Riffraff one comes.
Never fear, you still have options.
1. Order from riffraff. Orileys has a pretty good return policy even if they are used lightly if you keep the receipt.
2. If you acquired a Motorcraft fan, and there is a significant savings shipping one from Clay, do that. And take the new one from Clay to Orileys with the receipt. If they are both Motorcraft they wont know or care about the difference. Apples for apples.
Think he meant the part on RR's web site. I looked yesterday and couldn't find one either.
Yep. I've been to Clay's site many times to find great parts. I'll eventually need a new fan clutch and I didn't want to miss out on something from Clay's site. Fan, fan clutch, and shroud are currently off my truck. This time of year I can get by without them for a while.
Maybe someone could help the ignorant here(me). When looking at fan clutches I see "reverse direction" and "with direct injection" and "severe duty" and " with AC" and just plain jane fan clutch. Do all the 7.3s 1999 to 03 use the same, any one know the Motorcraft #.
I just made a 220 mile trip in 95 degree weather with my fan "un-installed". EOT never went over 205, and I got 21 mpg at 68 mph. With the clutch locked up like the OPs, I was down to 16 mpg hwy. No AC while sitting still without a fan, though. Wish there was a viable electric fan option...

Thanks
You need the Motorcraft part number with "DA" on the end.
