I have a 1982 F100. The truck is 2WD and has a 3.8 V6 with a 3 speed transmission. I've known this truck for all it's life (It's been in my family since around 1990, and the original owner is a family friend)
At one point while my dad owned it, we removed the original standard shift column (3 on a tree) when the bushings went bad in the column. We replaced it with a floor shift unit. I've been toying with the idea of restoring the truck and was hoping to find a column shift and parts to make it a column shift again.
Does anyone know where I can get everything? Or am I out of luck? I don't have any of the original parts.
Does anyone have an exploded view of the parts so I can see what I'm gonna need?
And I guess the last question is- Am I gonna spend a fortune on it?
Providing you find all the parts to make it a 3 on the tree again, I'd go for it for sure! Don't see many of those anymore, and gotta save the ones that are left.
I felt the same way about my '81 F-100 but from what I learned by asking around the parts that you need to restore the inside of the three speed columns are very hard to come by.
When I installed the three speed shifter floor conversion I also went with a new factory style floor mat and shifter boot/chrome. It all has a very nice original look which is what I like.
