Hello folks. Im typically on the slick forum but thought I'd ask a question here.
So my 64 F100 has the original 3.03 3spd top loader trans. with shifter on the tree. From my understanding, this trans was offered on fords til early 80's. My question is, did the 80's trucks have a column shifter also or floor shift? I want to convert to floor shift, but DONT want to use a universal shifter. Thanks
I think there was a column shift until 81 or 82, only on the three speeds though (I think) all the other manuals were floor shift. If you want stock shifter in the floor, you will probably have to swap to a four speed, or bite the bullet and get an aftermarket setup.
As far as I am aware, all 3 speed manuals were column shift in the trucks and vans.
Cars could be equipped with a floor shift 3 speed, but that would be way too short to attempt to swap into a truck.
The universal floor shifters are the option I know of for conversion from the column. At least there are repair parts available for your 64 column shifter, unlike the 80 and newer column shift 3 speed......
