Need Advice On 5 Speed please
Im looking at this 5 speed on ebay for my 1995 f150 5.0. This would be a donor to convert my auto to a stick. Does this look to be good condition and to work for my year of truck? looking for some feedback from some people that have experience with the 5 speeds. thanks

I mean.. you cant really tell anything by the pictures.
The great thing about manuals though is that they are pretty stout transmissions. I am debating on if I actually WANT to do the conversion on my truck.. But the thing is being hesitant to buy a used automatic unknowing of the condition of it, how the oil was, how it was run, and how long it has been sitting. With a manual, you flush it with oil. If the gears and shifter parts (forks, collars, shafts) all look good.. What you see is what you get.

If you are goin to go through the hassle of converting your automatic to a manual you might as well swap in a zf5 transmission they are a lot more durable than a m5od. Take a look at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s....php?t=1248098 he is doin what you are wanting to do but he is swapping in the zf5. You can get a zf5 from an f250-f350 with a 4.9, 5.0, or a 5.8.

The m5r2 trans came stock in a 95 f150 i know for sure 86-96 not sure about newer from what I've seen they look different may need an adapter 86-96 will bolt straight up. They aren't a bad tranny but are prone to tower issu es caused by the nut on the back of the. main and 5th shafts in the back of the trans if you are looking used check them best way to see if they have come loose is pull the tower and look at the sides of your forks for wear if there is either buy new nuts or tighten and stamp it if they have been stamped more than twice replace it I just went through it if left loose it will crater the tranny. You don't have to check it consantly but if you feel slop in the shifter check it.

You can find m5ods for $150 up my way...
Save yourself some trouble, find a truck with a bad body, ideally a 94-95 5.0 (from an electronics standpoint) that already has the stick in it and swap the components from it into yours. A whole other truck seems steep, but think of the spare parts and fewer trips to the junk yard (you need quite a few more parts then just the transmission)! Plus at the end, scrap the rest to recoup some cash.
I just did this swap, but I went 5.0 to 4.9, 2wd to 4wd, auto to manual, etc... Pm me if you want some guidance or a rough parts list...
