Korea: What does the future hold?

What a thorn in the neck to the Far East, now their ballistic missiles are prob able to hit Hawaii/Alaska? The iL Sung family is too radical & reactionary to call - who knows if they'll talk or attack? They're trying to take over from us as the #1 arms exporters, or what? Only product they have, what a legacy for an entire country. N.Korea and the IL Sung' dictators have been stirring up headaches for us and their neighbors since at least '49, and no love lost for the Chinese and Japanese who invaded/massacred Korea in past, and vice versa. What a mess of centuries of hate, again.
I vote: Diplomacy with current NK gov't fails to get an agreement that will be lived up to. Increased sanctions & action follow.

Korea: What does the future hold?

This is a nest of vipers, literally - The public is jumping on a bond wagon of discontent, shouting at the government, and making anti Bush statements all over, because of the Media Misinformation and misquoting concerning Iraq's WMD. This means that the government is under threat from the people, and may not be able to react correctly to the real and present danger caused by North Korea. This circumstance could become horrific with possible invasion of South Korea being only the start of world danger.

It is possible that the Liberal Jackasses that have caused all the dissident squabbling in the US recently may hold public opinion against US intervention, and thus invoke terrible consequences. Because of this current problem with the Libs... I cannot quess what would happen, and live in fear of being overun by the Ignorant, the Stupid, and Downright Idiotic fringes of society.

North Korea might be able to point a missile at us but I would take bets on whether it would actually hit us. Look at our missiles. A 50% failure rate is considered acceptable. I doubt that NK has a very high success rate.

But, if they keep up the nonsense, a few stray B-1's will correct the problem.

I spent 9 months in Korea in 1971 in the Navy. We will probably be still there in 2030.

We invaded Iraq because it was run by a bad guy. North Korea is run by a bad guy. Bush has set the precedent, so how can we NOT invade if North Korea doesn't come around? I don't see where Bush has a choice. By the way, we still consider Castro a "bad guy," don't we? Can you say, "Cuba, the 51st state?"

I agree that the biggest concern right now is the fact that the N. Korean population is suffering terribly, people are literally starving, and because of that kind of domestic instability, the political structure (the government) is under threat from its own people. In turn, the leaders of N. Korea are looking to lay the blame for those domestic problems on the rest of the world (by lying to their own people), and that somehow justifies arming themselves to the hilt and threatening their neighbors and jeopardizing world security in general.

I see a lot of similarities to **** Germany and Saddam's Iraq here..

Korea: What does the future hold?

We need to pull out and let the S.Koreans deal with it. Back in the 50's we were trying to stop communism from taking over the globe. As we have seen, communism doesn't work, and other countries are finally realizing this. We pull back to Japan and make a stand there. If N.Korea attacks the south, we go in with destroyers, and aircraft.....NO GROUND TROOPS!

North Korea will follow in the footsteps of Cuba and hold fast with their failed political policies and leaders while their people suffer and live in poverty and flirt with starvation. Unlike the now unified Germany, North Korea will prevent their people from seeing how South Korea is living with armed guards. It may take another 10-20 years for the North to implode.
