I bought my 2000 4.6L about a month ago and I've averaged about 15 around town. Last weekend I filled up the tank and for the first time did some highway driving and ended up with 20.1 mpg. I've been so excited about it I've had to tell everyone. In the past I had two different Jeep Grand Cherokee's that were half the size and didn't get this good of mileage. Spent about 30 minutes stuck in traffic so it might even get better. This weekend I'm heading from CA to TX so it will be interesting to see what my mileage is. You other 4.6 guys getting this kind of highway mileage?
What kind of highway mileage can be expected w/ a 5.4?
I've always gotten 16 mpg at 70mph, with my '97 4x4, 3.73 diff, and extra equipment sticking out all over it. All the added on filter, catback, etc. didn't change a thing.
How about while highway towing approx 4,500 lbs with a 5.4?
I tow an 8' x 26' TT weighing in at 5020 lbs. At 75 mph on the flat I get 9 mpg. 65 mph I get 10 mpg. Best I can get is 12 mpg at 55 mph. The lowest I ever got was 8 mpg going all day into a 40 mph headwind at 60 mph, an effective 100 mph wind speed.
