Had a front streetside tire blow yesterday on the way home from camping weekend. These are factory tires on the RV in my sig. The failure couldn't have happened in a better place if it had to happen at all ! It's true that when pulling a 5er with tandem axles you don't even feel that it blew. Lucky for me a guy behind me SAW the tire go and drew up beside me to let me know. Got pulled over before the tire shredded so no damage at all! Called my AARP Road Service and was home less than an hour later than I could have been. Today I checked the date code and saw it was made 50th week of 2005! RV was made in June 2006 to be called a 2007 model so I know I have to change all the tires now.
Has anyone else used UNIROYAL LAREDO LT235/85R16's on their rig? This is the tire that came on he trailer when new. I got a real good price from a local dealer installed but just wanted to hear from anyone else with experience with this tire..... good OR bad. Thanks......

Can't tell you a thing about the tires, but glad to hear your rig is okay!
One of my dealers just had a blow-out bringing an Everest fiver in and it trashed an entire body panel.
Tell your Dad to inspect those tires now....if they have sidewall cracks in them , have him replace them - they are over 7 years old. Better than replacing them when you have to pay highway prices. Check the date code. Mine that blew was made in Dec 2005. Thanks for the info tho.... I think I'm gonna get them. $652 installed for 4.

No he put them on the trailer 3 years ago , they were brand new when installed.
Oh OK.... missed the 3 years ago somehow!! You still need to kinda remember the date code and get 'em changed BEFORE the problems.... look at me giving advise when I didn't do it myself!!!!

I know how you feel , I blew 2 in a week on my gulfstream a couple years ago except I wasn't so lucky and busted up the side. I think the biggest factor on the blowouts at least in my situation was speed. Both times mine blew I was traveling about 75 miles an hour. I have since backed off to 65 to 68 and haven't had anymore blowouts.
I had a blowout on our old Mako from the China bombs. Luckily, it was still under waranty at the time. It trashed the side of the 5'er and I went back and forth with Carisle over it. I had one tire guy tell me that the best way to do it is to keep the pressure about 5 psi under max and slow down. I generally run about 62-63 when towing.
I've been able to control my speed to 65 or under via my cruise control. In this case, all the roads I had been on were NOT interstates. I was coming down from Gettysburg, PA back to Baltimore via Westminster, so all secondary roads until I-795, then speed limit was 60. Baltimore Beltway is 55 but I'd only just entered that less than 1 mile back. I already knew that this was the last season for these tires.
I wasn't implying any speeding. I know that before I had my blowout, it was nothing to run about 70-75. After that experience, I learned to slow down and enjoy watching my gas gauge drop.
I KNOW you weren't, but if I don't use the cruise, I DO!! Speed creep is pretty normal in these newer trucks as they are so comfortable! My cruise control is VERY important to me.
I've been "limping along" with 2005 Trailer Master tires for the last year or so, knowing its time for replacements. Since it's a triple axle trailer, I have had a little more peace of mind, thinking the weigh distribution was better than most. Currently D rated tires and headed to Phoenix in Nov for the Nascar race.
I just got a quote for 6 new E rated tires for 125 ea installed.
Gonna get these changed out before heading out.
Even our short trips recently, I've had 3 things on my mind...tires, tires, and tires!
Can't imagine the cost for tearing up the trailer, brakes, etc.
