Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what could be causing my truck to have wheel hop at 40 mph ? My truck had this issue for a long time . It has a 6.5" Procomp lift with new front tires 37" Nitto Grapler tires and rear tires rebalanced and also all front end parts replaced including new trac bar bushings , tie rod ends , ball joints , Napa steering box , all brakes redone (all four including new calipers ) . I do not have more than single shocks per wheel and I do not have ladder bars and it will happen with or without acceleration , thanks for any help !
mdayz28.. we have a very similar setup.. only i have a 8" lift with 38's.. so first thing first.. take it back in and have all the tires removed and have balance bean bags installed in the tires before they get mounted to the rim.. trust me.. night and day for us being that high and the tire size.. i didn't believe it till it was done to mine and i was in the same boat as you.. its very hard to balance a tire over 35" unless you go to a bir rib shop and use there tire balancers.. give it a go and let us know.. I am possative that this will cure your issue.. i also have nitto's on my truck.. sometimes when they are made also there is just a little more compound on one side of the tire then the other and it gives a slight vibration.. not all tires are perfect.. one of mine was out of balance from the manufacturere..
I get wheel hop all the time on these dang LA freeways...
But if its newer, I would suspect its a tire issue. If its old, consider a suspension issue. Try getting tires checked out like was mentioned above. Personally, I recommend Americas Tire Co.
X2 on the air pressure, also how new are the shocks? As shocks age they will allow wheel hop going down the highway. With 37s you may need a dual shock setup or a HD shock to keep those bigger tires in check. If those are in spec I would go with the route bigol04 is mentioning. Dynabeads will help balance bigger tires, because of the larger amount of rubber they tend to be fartherout of balance and harder to balance
Thanks for the info . Don't want to steal the thread . I am going to try the Dynabeads when I have the back tires changed out . I don't really use my truck much so it may be a while before I find out if they work . Thanks !
I have 38/15.5/20 Mickey T's on Moto's on my 06 sd cc 4wd with 8" Fabtech lift and Fabtech single shocks. I don't get wheel hop even at 100 plus mph...
check for an oblong rim/s. I didn't see if you said it was all wheels or one or 2... But if you had taken a good hit to a rim like a curb, bad pothole, etc. you could have an out of round rim that wouldn't present until you got some rpm's on the wheel.
