Stalling when accelerating.
Especially when the weather is cool out (evenings, mornings, etc), the vehicle would hesitate when I pressed on the gas pedal. I rationalized this as a downshift, since I was usually rolling.
This morning, I started it up and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, then when I put it in gear and started to take off, it stalled. I put it in neutral, started it again, and then drove off just fine. I got to the stop light, and the same thing happened. I put it in neutral, started it again, and it drove off just fine.
When I stopped for gas, I checked the transmission fluid and noticed the dipstick wasn't fully seated into the ... dipstick... holder thingy. Could this be related?
Problems like this are hard to diagnose by remote control.
My first impression would be it could be either fuel or ignition, you'll need to do some troubleshooting.
Check the distributor's vacuum advance, see if the advance is unit is good.
Pull the cap off and get a short piece of hose, put the hose on the advance and apply a vacuum source (suck on the end works) so if the advance plate moves. If it doesn't, replace the advance.
Check for any possible vacuum leaks. Check the initial timing. Check the fuel filter. Use a vacuum gauge to adjust the carb mixture (adjust for highest manifold vacuum), check the EGR valve, make sure the valve is good and is closing and not leaking.
