i have noticed of late an increase in smoke at first start up. the smoke will continue for sometime at idle but if you drive off..it clears quickly. the color at all times seems to be white with a blue tinge.
The truck received all remanned injectors a few months ago and oil consumption hasn't changed over the last year.
Fuel economy improved with the injectors from about 12mpg to 15-16 mpg and has remained steady ever since.
Coolant levels haven't changed at all over the last few months.
i have done a buzz test and no issues there. the cylinder contribution test yielded the typical cyl 8.
With cylinder velocity, again cylinder 8 shows a perdel of 5.0. All the other cylinders except #3 are hovering at 0 +/- .5 Cylinder #3 bounces between 1 and 0.
At this point, I am not sure where to go next in diagnosing this. What have I overlooked?
the glow plugs have been ohmed out and all are reporting for duty. i have a stancor relay and added a led to the dash to show how long the relay is activated.
as for the idle, a beverage would show that the engine is running but its not rough seas.
could glow plugs be ok ohm wise but still be weak ?
Not to hijack, but did you ever figure this one out? I've had about the same symptoms for a couple of years now. I'm stumped. Glow plugs were new 2 years ago, reman'd SS injectors, good relay, etc. Truck starts like a champ. It'll fire right up when everybody else's diesel's are MIA. But it will smoke. And smoke decent. Clears up as soon as the motor is under power tho. I haven't really worried about it too much, because, hey, everything still does what it's supposed to. Any ideas?

hi
i did find out after i did a compression test. For me, it was #6 which was only at 150lbs versus others at over 400 lbs.
the previous owner ran a cone filter that allowed dust in.
i would say that if the glow plug system is working, injectors are known to be good, then a compression test is in order.
