Air condition & vacuum ???

2004 F350 6.0 diesel
I have had poor air conditioning forever. It seemed to get better the faster i would go then when i would stop it seemed to not even be cool maybe on the warm side. I have been thinking it could be a vacuum problem. I can't seem to find any manuals for this truck to show me anything. I don't know how much vacuum pressure the pump should be holding. If anyone can help with this problem it would be much appreciated. Also if anyone has an idea for where to get service manuals or a book on it that would show what i need, that would help also
Thanks Much
Steve

That's not a vacuum problem. Is your truck a crewcab or Ext. cab? Have you ever had it recharged PROFESSIONALLY? The bigger cab trucks had the Freon amount changed after 04 (my truck is an 04) and getting it recharged makes a huge difference.

As far as service and/or tech manuals if you'll check the beginning of this forum for the 6.0 tech folder it has a massive amount of information compiled in it. If you can't find it there then PLEASE ask. There's some one here that knows how to fix your problem.

Usually if you have a vacum problem the air will default to the defrost position no matter where you have the unit set. If your truck has the heater control solenoid you might check to see if the vacum line got disconnected.

My truck is a crew cab. I have added some freon to a point i have to much now. I know it is best to empty it and draw a vacuum on it but i was hoping for it to work better. My thought was i might not have enough vacuum to work any solenoids or anything that controls the heat. My original question was how much vacuum is the pump supposed to draw??? I was going from there and check for solenoids like 69cj suggested. Anyone have any oth thoughts. Please, Thank You.

No offense but your reply/logic just blew me out of the water. Time for you to take it to an A/C tech.

Take a look at the spaces in between the ac condensor the intercooler and the rad.
what happens with these trucks is grass and debris (or Bugs) plug up in the middle which restricts the air flow across the condensor this could be why it works better the faster you drive because you are getting the air flow across the rad. also if it is low it will also do this.

I understood your original question. The solenoid that 69cj suggested is in the heater core hose under the hood and has a small gray vacuum line attached to it. It is only supposed to close when AC is turned to MAX. If that line isn't attached or you had a vacuum leak anywhere you'd be able to KOEO and hear the vacuum pump run all the time.

Here is the vacuum schematic:

THANKS GUYS
I had to wait for rain to quit around here and then found my problem with the vacuum. My brother and I both had the same problem. We had someone else work on our trucks and in both cases they screwed up the vacuum hose going to the solenoid in the heater hose.
Does anyone know how cold of air they get out of there vents. I am not sure what is good enough to expect from the system.
Thanks so much!
