I have a 2003 Diesel EXC with the top line stereo/CD package. Recently, my display seemed to have lost it's brain. The seven segment display does not display certain segments, and there appears to be other information illuminated on the display. It started acting up all of a sudden. I did not lose any presets, all other functions appear normal except for as noted. is there a
reset procedure for the radio to maybe get it thinking correctly again..?
I've never heard of this issue, I don't think there is an actual reset on the radio. However you can always disconnect the battery for a little while and that would reset just about everything. Just my .02
It's been my experience when that happens that they don't come back. You could attempt to fix it yourself but it's probably just easier to replace the deck (and once you have another OEM deck it's about a 30 second job)
I've seen them go bad in similar fashion. It's not going to be resolved by any type of reset but will need to be replaced. They are easy to remove so you can get the part number of the radio as well as the connector layout. Use Ebay to find something similar - radios out of different models will usually work if you can't find the exact part number - this is where the connector layout comes into play. If you have rear DVD then you will need to find one which supports that functionality - same with steering wheel controls.
The other option is to go with the aftermarket - better functionality, more features and easy to expand. Things like nav, bluetooth, dvd, phone integration, etc may sway you to get something aftermarket vs. replacing with another factory head unit.
