Ford AM/FM/Casette radio preset problem

I recently had to disconnect the battery when replacing my rear gas tank and fuel pump. Obviously all my radio presets were gone after re-connecting the battery. Turned on the radio, selected a station and as soon as I press in a preset button, the radio changes to a different frequency (sometimes not even a station but static) and the radio saves the new frequency instead. I've tried different preset buttons and tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting a second time. I still get the same results. As soon as I press in a preset button the radio changes to another frequency and saves that new frequency for the preset I pressed and held for a few seconds. Any ideas on how to fix this problem are welcome.

It certainly sounds like you are trying to reset everything correctly. Tune in the station you want to save, press and hold the preset button until you hear the station again. You should get a second of silence while the radio saves your preset.

Found out why setting presets wasn't working. Apparently after disconnecting the battery you MUST set preset '1' before attempting to set any other preset on the radio. The radio manual says NOTHING about this. I was trying to set my favorite FM stations back to their original setting of presets 3 & 4.

I didn't know that either, but I guess it makes since because I've always started at preset #1 and never had any problems.
