1996 f250 7.3 CrewCab short bed 4.10 gears 210,000miles
I've been told I need to replace synchronizes in my tranny. If I don't shift slowly into these gears then I will get a nice grinding. Any other suggestions? I've checked master cylinder in clutch and it seems to be going out fully when I press in the clutch.
Also how much are synchronizes? I would like to do the work myself to save money and I have the time bc its not my DD at the moment. Should I look for a different 5spd trans?
I may have to replace rear main seal so if I'm going to mess with the trains then I would like to do it then since I will need to drop the trans.
Not too sure. I bought the truk about a year ago ... It hasn't been driving that much just because ive had another car to drive and I decided to spend time working on the truck. I've done interior and paint ... Now working on this. Could bad or lack of trans fluid be a factor to this problem?
Check the eye on the master cylinder push rod where it connects to the pedal linkage. The cheap plastic bushing from the factory wears out, then the eye and the stud it goes on will start to wear into each other and cause the clutch to not fully disengage. May not be your problem, but worth checking before you buy a kit for the trans. And replacing the syncros requires the trans to be completely disassembled, so you might as well do a full rebuild on it if it is bad syncros.
