Payload - 1999 F250 SD

Hi there. Yes, another question!

What is the payload for my 1999 F250 Super Duty (V10 but not sure that matters) Regular Cab, 8' box.

The GVWR noted on the inside of the door is 8800 lbs, but I assume that is the total legal weight when loaded - but I have no idea what the truck weighs empty! Not sure where to find this info (No owners manual).

Also, on a side note, anyone have any idea what a yard of topsoil, screened 1/2 inch might weigh? I know I can easily haul 1 yard, but wondering if the truck would be okay with 2 yards at once.

Yes, engine type matters.
Best way to determine is to weigh your truck with fuel and driver included and then deduct from 8800 lbs.....that is your payload capacity under those conditions. My guess is that you have somewhere around 1300-1600 lbs of payload available but that is just a guess. No way of knowing unless you want to add up all the optional equipment weights yourself. If you are game, here are the files you will need. Start with your curb weight and then add all the options listed. Include everything, even the weight factor for all season vs highway tires....

Or you could just weigh your truck, then subtract that from your GVRW.

i guess it depends on if you want to be legal by what Ford says on paper or what these trucks can REALLY haul...... My F350 in my sig has a payload of 3820lbs, ive had 3600lbs in it and i still had plenty of spring left to add more weight. Max Ford alows for a reg cab 8ft bed 2wd single tire F350 is 4400lbs, and since ALL srw Super Duty use the same identical spring id say 4400lbs is what i would go max. But i gave you a link to specs for your truck, payload is 2900lbs from what Ford has on paper

and about the weight of topsoil, its VERY HARD to say........ if its completely dry it will be lighter, if its wet or very heavy good quality top soil it will weigh alot more. Then it depends on what the loader gives you, when i get mulch etc from the local place i go the loader ALWAYS gives me about a half yard more and i mean ALWAYS. I don't know why he does but everyone i talk to says he always loads more than you pay for......... so my lets say 2000lb load of mulch just turned into 3000lbs
but one yard is nothing for a SD truck, id get one yard loaded up and see how the truck handles the weight (remember wet/dry and loader amount will effect the weight drastically) and if the rear suspension has the room to travel more and the bed isn't loaded up to the top rails dump another yard in her....... these trucks love work and you'll be amazed how smooth she will drive loaded

I've pulled out of my local supply yard scales at 12,500 lbs several times. Is it legal. No. Is it safe. Not really. However my 01 f250 handles it just fine. I run a salt spreader and plow about a mile up the road before the spreader is half empty and things level out but the truck handles fine. Personally I don't like doing that but in winter storms when I don't want to wait for a second load I can push it for that half hour that the material is in there. If its a load or 2 you should be fine. Done it this way for 6 years now on occasion during the winter
