I pulled a 360 out of the wrecking yard a few days ago and today I got the oil pan out and I found bits of metal come big chunks and little copper looking ones....its toast right...
Yeah PNP does exchange or offer credit, I scoped out what else is at the yard there this morning since there was 2 new entries on the 13th.. a 75 and 73 the 75 had a chebby 350 and the 73 was garbage...
I would at least pull the main bearing caps one a time and take a look at the bearings and see what they look like. I would also pop the heads off the engine and inspect not only the valve/rocker area but the valve faces as well. Camshaft needs to come next if you want to be absolutely sure that there is nothing that actually "broke off" while the engine was in operation.
If everything looks good, pop for a set of gaskets, a new oil pump and throw it back together.
(This is assuming a lo-buck "get-er-going" situation). I've done this in the past with some success, but make sure you inspect EVERYTHING.
The rods are numbered from the factory. That's not an indication that it was rebuilt. Non O.E gaskets, oversize numbers on the pistons, undersize numbers on the crank, reman tags afixed to the block, all these are indicators that it's been rebuilt
