More power!!!
I want some more power out of my 460. I plan to be hauling cars and I would like some more torque for towing. I also want more throttle response.
I cannot afford to yank out the engine, but I don't mind spending a few days leaned over a fender if it gets me some power. I would also like to know if there is any free mods. Is there any emissions crap I can get rid of?
The only mods (that I know of) on my truck is a glasspack with a turndown under the bed.

You have an '88 or do I have to go back and look for something else?
It says you are 15 also. That right?
This is a basic cook book for the 460. Figure out what will work for you based on your budget and appetite for changing the cam etc.

EFI you can probably add headers, as long as they have the bungs for the oxygen sensors. Doug Thorley makes good headers.

Son open the hood and look if it's EFI. Headers will pick you up, a free flowing exhaust will pick you up, cam, switch over to a carb'd intake and carburetor. Just remember if it is EFI to run a carb you'll need a regulator on the fuel line to take the pressure down to what you need for running a carb. EFI flows in the 40-60psi range at the rails, while carb is 6-8psi.
Coming from personal experience to when I was a young whipper snapper at your age with no money something you can do to get more power is give it a little bit more timing.
Headers- between 120-150 bucks (look on CL for used ones you can get them cheap)
Cam & Lifters ( 130-150) don't go to big on the cam and you can get away with stock springs
Timing set 30-50 bucks you'll need a new one with a new cam and lifter set.
about 400 bucks tops and I bet you'd be real happy with how the truck would run.

The H in the intake track has reducers that you can cut out to free up flow a bit.
Open up your airbox some and use a good filter.
With spout plug removed set the timing at 10-12deg advanced.
Put lower gears in the rear axle, it will hurt your mileage on the freeway but so will just about every performance part you put in the motor.
Install a quality aftermarket coil and increase your plug gap until it pings under load and go a little smaller then that with a new set of plugs.
Don't mean to be offensive but you're 15 so are you mechanically competent enough to get inside the motor and make it run again or at least have someone who is helping you? Also if this is somehow already your 4th truck then are you realistically going to keep it long enough to make it sensible for you to put time and money into it. Consider how much this truck will eat gas when you do get your license, unless you have a 2nd vehicle for a commuter. My 460 Crew Cab averages 10 mpg with modifications but it's worth it for me as I tow a lot.

I know an upgraded coil is something to be considered, but I'm completely in the dark about which to gowith. What would you recommend I put on it? E3 spark plugs were in the plans already, I just forgot to mention. My bad.
No offense taken. Yes, I'm handy with a wrench, but I learn something new every day (don't we all?) I have never torn a motor down past the top end. I have a buddy of mine though has torn apart several motors and put them back together running like a top. Yes this is my fourth truck, but I plan to keep this one for at least 3 years. My job is only half a mile from my house, so commuting isn't a big deal from a cost standpoint.
I am installing mid length headers this week and am installing a better exhaust system with stuff from summit racing.

Personally I wouldn't waste my money on fancy plugs, copper core plugs do a great job and plugs should be a routine service irem anyway in order to "read" the plugs and see condition of the motor.
Concerning which coil to buy, that is a matter of what people like and has been discussed a LOT on this forum. My personal preference is a Jacob's Ultra Coil but Jacob's has been out of business for years and there is a lot of people who hate their products usually due to the fact that the instal instructions that came with their ignition boxes are incorrect concerning Duraspark II installations. Search through the forum and come to your own conclusion, Accel stuff is for the most part cheaply made and I would stay away from them, try and find a Variable Magnetic Core coil.
For filters K&N is the first and easier answer as they have direct applications for most everything and are usually pretty cheap concerning aftermarket upgrades, Banks has air cleaner setups for EFI 460 trucks along with quite a few others.
