300 i6 performance

ive been thinkin bout which direction i wanna go with my truck and ive realized i want something completely unique. i wanna do a 300 straight 6, ive thought about a 460 ive thought about jackin up the 302, but i want shock and aww on someones face when i blow by them and they hear a 6 instead of an 8, plus of all the engines ive had in my ford, the 300 has been the least problematic, i know there are cams an intakes available, but i want more, i know 390 pistons will fit if i bore it .050 over but i dont wanna take that much meat off the bone so to speak i heard something about chevy 383 pistons? what can i do to deck that engine out, im planning this for a future project im getting ready for

They have good sources too. Not trying to lead to you away from this site because I used both of them sites.

The 300 is a torque engine. In a truck application I would use it over a 302 any day.

The EFI 300 doesn't have much of an aftermarket at the moment. If you get a carbed 300 then you have much more chances to get aftermarket items. Cliffords Performances gives you access to put a 4 barrel carb on the 300 with their aftermarket intake manifolds.

I've also heard about using chevy style lifters or something. I never gotten into it.

Just check out the Fordsix site...it might take awhile before they activate your account and sometimes to respond to questions but them guys know a lot on there. You can search for your questions on there too AND read their tech archives.

We have our own 300 site right here on ford-trucks.

Ford Inline Six, 200, 250, 4.9L / 300 - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

There never was a roller 300, unfortunately.
There are aftermarket cams for the EFI 300, but they're few, simply because the stock computer doesn't like a lot of change. If you swap it out for something like a MegaSquirt controller and do your own, then your options open WAY up with larger valves, radical cams, turbos, etc.

But yeah, if you just want to take the easy route with the 300, carb'd applications give a lot more options for performance than the EFI, and since they're so restricted from the factory, you can open up their potential pretty quickly.
