Im doing a motor swap in a 76 f 150 custom.. taking out 351 mod with c6 trans auto and replacing it with 429 c6 auto.. My question is the mount of these are both different. Can I take tail end off the one and replace it with the other to mount up? Thanks
Yes you can, if they are the same length. While you have the housing off think about replacing the bushing. A new one is about $5 at most auto parts stores. It would be far easier to do it now than to take it back out later.
The 429 and trans out of tbird 72. The tail end is 17 1/4
The trans on the 351 is 13 1/2
They both same bolt patterns.
So I'm assuming they should bolt up to mount and drive shaft with out a hitch. I hope.
So one extension housing is 17 1/4, and the other is 13 1/2? That will work fine, except that you won't be able to install the driveshaft because the output shaft will be sticking out of the housing by 3 3/4 inches. You won't need to replace the bushing, either, as the shaft won't be in contact with the housing.
If you want this to work you need to tear down both transmissions and swap the output shafts.
