The 10,000 lb and 9,900 lb ratings are for licensing and maybe insurance from what I understand.
I'm in Oregon so it doesn't matter.
"is the 10,600 lb GVWR Package a new designation for 2014 vehicles?"
I don't think so but I can't say for sure.
If you look at the specs for payload ratings on the web site IT DOES NOT SPECIFY that some of the payload ratings are for the diesel optioned trucks.
Bill spec'ed out the truck to get me the highest payload on my order. IIRC, the camper package and the heavy service front end package cannot be had together, plus I get a rear stabilizer bar.
You gotta admit that a 3,970 lb payload on a SWR Crew Cab 4x4 is high.
Man....would have gone with the Diesel...just got rid of the gasser...pulling a similar load! Sorry to throw that out there!
I understand.
I've been told that a diesel wouldn't do well with my current situation which will last about 5 years.
When we hit the road we are going to be Camp Hosts 3 to 9 months a year so we will not be driving 100's and 100's of miles day after day.
We want to see the country and we also want to explore Oregon more. We could easily spend 2 years in this state alone.
A short trip run around stop and go rig suits us well.
...and don't be sorry! I love me an opinionated outspoken _______ type of person! lol!!
I just checked on Ford's site and yes the gas engines get the 35 gallon tank for all wheelbases. That's something new for 2014. But the Diesels still get the 26 gallon tank for short beds.
FWIW, my 2013 F250 short bed (142" wheelbase) Super Cab came with a 35 gallon fuel tank.
...I drove a very similar truck today and it rides and handles very well.
One more step toward our life on the road []
Congratulations on ordering your new truck, BossGasser! Send me a PM with your order number and dealership name/location; I'll provide you with weekly updates on your truck's status.
You should add the snow plow option for $80 you get heavier front springs, HD radiator, HD shocks and a higher output alt.Even if you never plan on plowing snow, it is a great option.
We will be hosting almost anywhere we can. Last year a host was needed at Yosemite and at a city park in Vancouver WA.
We could work with guests and tend a garden and live at a cattle ranch in southern Oregon.
We could live in almost complete isolation at an eastern Oregon CG.
My favorite CG is Ft. Stevens at the NW corner of the state. We wouldn't want to host there though. Too many gray, drizzly days and mosskeetoes.
Our favorite campsite is at Crane Prairie reservoir.
