I have a 2001 F150 XLT 4X4 4.6L. The question is, How can I tell if I have rear only ABS or all 4. I am getting ready to swap out the rear end. Want to make sure I bleed the brakes right. I have read on here that I need to crack open a bleeder valve before pushing in on the piston.
All 4, you'll have a sensor wire coming out of each front spindle and 1 sensor on top of the rear diff housing. At least that's what my 02 has.
The crack the bleed screw at each caliper before pushing piston in is to prevent dirty brake fluid sediment in the caliper from being pushed back up the lines. This could create problems with the abs system. There is a lot of fluid volume in the caliper if pads are worn out and pistons are out all the way. The left front would be the one I would be sure to bleed off as it's lines are usually the shortest and closest to the abs module.
