2010 E350 V10 ABS Code B1222

B1222 Wheel Speed Mismatch

I'm trying to help a friend that has sort of come to the end of the line with Ford and Sportsmobile.

For this particular problem, the brake and ABS warning/DTC lights come on on the dash. As soon as the vehicle is stopped and the ignition is shut off, the codes go away/go dark until the right conditions reoccur. The right conditions are being off pavement and running at anywhere between 10 to 40 mph for a few miles. So far, problem does not occur on a paved (smooth) road. Dust does not seem to be the problem in that we were recently on unpaved roads that had been soaked by rain - no dust and still got the trip for the codes/lights. Because the rougher road seems to be the common denominator, I'm thinking it could be a wiring/connector problem. All ideas welcome.

For those that are not familar with Sportsmobile, they take new vans (Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc) and convert them to campers and/or off road vehicles. This particular one got 4WD and in that process I think the original brakes were retained with the primary modification being the substitution of F450 rotors. I'm currently not super knowledgeable about all the modifications, but I can become so and will research and answer any pertinent question.

You can see the code by downloading the following 120kb jpg.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...0codeB1222.jpg
This code is a bit of a mystery to me in that I can't seem to find it online. If anyone has any insight in to that, I'd love to hear the story.

I ran Ford code B1222 online and it comes up (Fuel Temp Sensor#1 circuit failure)? could be gas tank pressure build up, and the other lights should set a separate code.........

Code is a mystery

Yeah, Econolinemanor, that's the problem I was aluding to in the last sentence of my original post. What I found on line for that code did not say anything about wheel speed mismatch.

Did you look at the photo - if not please do? Perhaps the code reader is not suitable for a 2010 E350? Maybe the reader is feeding me the right message (wheel speed mismatch) which seems to be on target, but the wrong code?

I found a ABS code C1222 wheel speed mismatch, but I not sure it's for Ford. I would check to see if the front wheel sensors and the tone rings on the hubs are clean after off road use........that's all I got!

There is another forum about Sportmobile conversions---the Engines & Drivetrain might yield answers more specific to this. Sportsmobileforum.com • View forum - Engines and Drivetrain

Did you use the Code Connect feature of the Actron scanner?

Its my understanding B codes are body related ie: air bag sensors etc which makes the DTC number and (Actron) stated condition a bit mysteriously inconsistent to be certain.

Maybe the Sportsmobile forum will have more insight about this oddity.

Sportsmobile Forum

I tried to register on the Sportsmobile Forum before I registered here. They have a final question (to prove that I'm a human being) that is impossible (for me) to figure out. Screw 'em.

Indeed----good attitude! I'd try again if only because that forum is very specific to your conversion---well worth the minor hassle of signing up.

Asking again did you use the Code Connect feature that's so prominent in the linked photo? That can be a useful starting point with codes you're not familiar.

I reviewed the Sportsmobile Forum threads

JWA, even though I couldn't register on the Sportsmobile forum, I could sort the threads by subject (actually title) and I did get good information on other problems. And that's where I got the info on the F450 rotors (maybe accurate, maybe not). But couldn't find any info on error codes and DTC/warning lights on the dash as it pertained to brakes and the ABS. So, addressing your concerns, I didn't totally ignore the resource.

Regarding the code connect feature, tell me more - I don't know anything other than attaching to the OBDII port and starting punching buttons on a code reader that I'm not familar with. I probably did it wrong. Help!

Oh, no you didn't do anything wrong---just didn't as of yet utilize the full features of your scanner!

The Code Connect feature on Actron scanners is a list of the most common fixes reported by other users in their data base, sometimes up to five things previously reported to have solved any one particular code. The image here shows the larger blue button saying Code Connect, simply push it after reading the DTC and the list should pop up.

Keep also in mind Actron allows user to updates their scanners by accessing their site, free of charge. You'll get available updates to the OBD-II data base, perhaps adding a few years to your range of models and years covered by the scanner. Along with those updates you'll get updated Code Connect fixes which might be more thorough today.
