pretty sure my timing is way off when i went to start my truck after the new distributor was in stalled (ds2 + msd) it back fired through the carb kinda lost as to what to do now and praying i didnt jack anything up. any suggestions.
When you put the new distributor in, did you install it from base 0? Or did you mark which direction the old one was facing and try to duplicate it?
Generally, I like to start from scratch and never worry about trying to get the new distributor lined up just like the old one.
First thing to check if you did start from scratch, are you sure you didn't install the distributor 180° out? It's easy to do if you get the compression and the exhaust stroke mixed. I've done it before and the symptoms are usually no start, and popping back out the carb.
The other is getting the stator inside the carb lined up with the pickup magnet. When you line up the carb, you have to take off the rotor, look down in, and line up the closest arm on the stator between the two marks on the black magnet. Easy to do, but if you don't, just a little bit of error can cause your timing to be way off.
Best of luck.
