Sorry, i should have specified. Did you cut a hole out of the panel to stuff the box in and carpet the original panel? Or is it an MDF box in an MDF panel?
Here is mine. I already had a speaker box, I made a pattern with some plywood and put the box inside it. The door is just plastic just cut out what you need to.
hmmm. really like it. you should do a write up on it.. :-p
Do your doors not rattle with the vibration? I dont have anything on mine and I can hear it rattling all the time.. Maybe I need new gaskets more than I thought.. =/

I had a speaker already in a box, then I took an MDF board and cut a squre hole in it the same size as the box and pushed it through the hole. Put lots of caulk and a few L brackets to hold it in place, then glued some fabric on I bought at a fabric store that matched fairly close.
The other side I made a place for the amp, but put it under the seat instead, I have a ac converter there now, It would look cooler with the amps and some lights, but I got lazy.
I have a stealthbox and a 13" sub in the back in the spare tire area. I would recommend the stealthbox if you like musical bass and the spare tire or rear doors if you wanna jam. Nothing is going to be easy, nothing is going to be cheap(if you count the cost of YOUR time and labor). I actually bought my stealthbox for around $270 on Ebay...you've been waiting for two years...spend two months on Ebay and get what you want or pay someone to do it right(do a search and have it update you when it hits ebay, best part of ebay)...only way you'll be happy is if it's RIGHT. Some people have the skills to do it themselves, I do not.
Still stealth, still have my spare with me and the sound is good with no rattles.
Had this since early 2011. Have had the X for 5 1/2 years and have had the spare out only for this build. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...the-spare.html
I have done about 20 Excursions since they came out. It's been a few years since my last one I cut up. I am seriously considering building some into my doors since there are many times I remove my enclosure and are slow getting it back into the truck.
I build the enclosures out of 1/2" Trupan. It is a ultralite MDF and is usually twice the price but it's half the weight.
I basically build an enclosure that will fit into the cavity that I have cut out. I then attach a larger face panel that will attach to the door itself. I will usually try to line the back side of the box with foam so that it doesn't rattle against the fiberglass of the door since I try to get as much airspace as I can out of it.
This is done using a 8" Kicker Comp back in about 2002 or something. Now with the shallow mount speakers you can get away with a really good 10" shallow mount speaker.
definately like the look in the barn doors....just concerned about depth.
would it be easier to make something like in post 17 that acted as a bit of a spacer to allow for perhaps 5" or more of depth between the face of the speaker and the back of hte magnet?

Wow, how cool would it be for someone to do a couple different "how-to" threads on custom build speaker boxes like that, and deck installs, and sound stuff in general.
Man, I think that would be AWESOME! If only we knew someone who's been in the biz for 20+ years....hmmmmmmmmmm
KCAsound, I am assuming you built the box in the door then snapped the factory panel back over it and cut a whole. Did the factory panel snap back on using the OE fastners?
Yes. Its a 1/2 inch face panel so it fit behind the oem panel. If you notice I notched the wood where the trim panel snaps around it. I then cut the hole in the plastic panel. Trace that hole onto the wood then cut the wood. To me its much easier than trying to cut both but I have done it many different ways. I've used a rotozip, dremel and jig saw. I've also cut the hole in the box first then used a flush bit with a router to trim the hole in the plastic panel.
I've even done a fiberglass enclosures in there to but I'm much faster with wood and i hate working with fiberglass. I have built these on-site at peoples houses since that's the way my business has always been. I install on-site rain or shine and no matter the time.
