I've been looking at Platinum 250 SDs for less than a month, and the vast majority are 2013 models. I believe I've seen a few 2014s.
Are they still shipping 2013s from the factory, or is the supply drying up and the 2014s will be coming out in larger quantities? It seems from checking the inventory on the various lots, that few new ones are coming in these days.
It doesn't appear like there's much of a difference between the two model years, so I'd just assume get a better discount on a 2013, if I can find the right color and options.
Ford doesnt build mass quantities of a vehicle when there are identical vehicles on the lots. 2014s will slowly roll out, but they arent going to flood already full dealerships with vehicles.
There are minimal differences. Get the one with features you like, regardless of year.

Thank you for your thoughts, A/Ox4.
I probably should have phrased my question a little differently. I get the idea that they wouldn't flood the dealerships. What I'm trying to get a sense of is the rhythm of the model year change for Ford and the dealers. I believe the industry average is 60 days on a dealer lot. Given that, while it seems to me that few new ones are coming onto the lots that I'm watching, it may be the case that it's just my perception because I've not been looking for more than a month at this point in time.
The model year - given that there are minimal differences, is only important to me if they need to clear out remaining 2013s that haven't sold, and there's an additional incentive to purchase a '13 over a '14.
Again - it's more of an interest in the rhythm of this change, that I'd like to better understand. Thank you.
You should be able to find some platinums around. Dealers here love to stock up on lariat and king ranch, with a few Platinums around
Thank you, acf6. There are some around, but I see much the same for this area with more King Ranches and various Lariat combinations.
The prices are pretty similar with Platinums vs. full-loaded Lariats and King Ranch models, so I guess it's more the case that the Platinums are just not as much in demand from a looks and options perspective.
The 13's took forever to hit the lots, so I wouldn't expect much as far as leftovers go, especially on platinums. They didn't start to build the 13 til october I think, and then ended production in may. There just aren't going to be a ton of 13's. When I ordered mine in the end March, the dealer had just gotten thier FIRST 13 for a stock unit. Also, around here like others have found, I have yet to see a dealer with a platinum sitting on the lot in stock. Most here just have lariats, with a king ranch here or there. There is a few thousand different in MSRP between a loaded lariat and a platinum.
If I were a farmer, I don't think the Platinum would be my first choice.
You'd be surprised how many people buy a fully-loaded super duty and use it as a work truck. I always shake my head when I see a King Ranch with a dented up bed and half the body panels a different color
